Llorente SIU and Alameda County District Attorney Team Up on Successful Insurance Fraud Case

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. — (November 5, 2008) — Llorente SIU, a leading Contract SIU service provider, announced today that Tania Shavonne Lang of Oakland, California plead no contest to one count of misdemeanor insurance fraud on October 30, 2008. Lang was charged with 12 felony counts by the Alameda County District Attorney’s office in November, 2007, arising from a worker’s compensation claim filed in December, 2006.  As a result of the plea bargain, Lang was sentenced to 3 years probation, and ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $12,503.75.  She also agreed to dismiss her pending worker’s compensation claim, with prejudice.

Lang filed a worker’s compensation claim for injuries sustained in a slip-and-fall accident.  She alleged no prior injuries to the parts of her body injured in the fall, and denied filing any prior insurance claims.  Evidence showed, however, that she received a prior WCAB award for injuries to the same parts of her body in January, 2002.

“We would like to thank Alameda County Deputy DA Lance Kubo, and DA Inspector Steve Matsumoto for their persistence in prosecuting this case,” says Kristen Llorente, President and Chief Executive Officer of Llorente SIU. “The Alameda County District Attorney’s office clearly recognizes the importance of aggressively pursuing the prosecution of all types of insurance fraud, and we appreciate their diligence in this matter.”
